Salt Lake City supports fledgling resident arts companies and their desire to incubate new works in a risk-free environment. The Wagner Center provides a site for experimentation, idea development, and presentation. Walls are intended to welcome the merging of the memory construction and performers alike as the spaces are marked and registered for both fabrication and artistic interpretation. Preconceptions are challenged by the juxtaposition of refined material like silver leaf with plywood, ground-faced concrete block, and marble façade with galvanized steel cornice. Passersby are celebrated as performers in a reflection on the mirror-finished stone face that is canted to bring greater focus to the sidewalk as a stage.
