Ethel Wattis Kimball Department of Visual Art

The Kimball Art Department Building is positioned to create the southern edge of a future central quadrangle on campus as the university moves from a primary commuter campus to one more resident-based. The Department of Art wanted an adaptable building that anticipates grown within the disciplines due to changing technique and a shift toward digital platforms.
Building character is found in the method of construction, such as folded metal decking to allow natural light into the galleries. The building also highlights the distinction between making and displaying by including galleries, student commons, and studio space.
